Description
Alaska, 1920: a harsh land for homesteading, especially for newcomers Jack and Mabel. Childless and growing apart, Jack is overwhelmed by the farm’s demands, while Mabel is consumed by loneliness and despair. During the season’s first snowfall, they whimsically build a child out of snow. The next morning, the snow child has vanished, but they catch sight of a young, blonde-haired girl darting through the trees. This girl, who calls herself Faina, appears to be a child of the woods. She hunts with a red fox, glides effortlessly over the snow, and survives alone in the Alaskan wilderness.
As Jack and Mabel grapple with understanding this mysterious girl who seems to have stepped out of a fairy tale, they grow to love her as their own. However, in this stunning yet brutal place, nothing is as it seems. The truths they uncover about Faina will transform their lives forever.
